Wales to aim for net zero

Published: 11 Jun 2019

In response to the statement by the Welsh Government that the emissions target for Wales is net-zero by 2050, Haf Elgar, Director of Friends of the Earth Cymru, said:

“This strong and positive statement shows that the Welsh Government is acting on the climate emergency. We agree with them that we can go further and faster than the carbon cuts recommended by the UK Committee on Climate Change. And indeed we must, or we will face unimaginable impacts for the climate and biodiversity.

"We must get to net zero as soon as possible, and with determination and ambition we believe this can be achieved by 2045.

“The solutions are out there - there are great examples of people making a difference in communities across Wales - and we need to work together to create a safe, healthy and sustainable world.”
